FAQ : Everything you want to know about nude hiking (Free Hiking)
Are you thinking about trying nude hiking, or are you curious about how free hiking works?
We’ve compiled and answered the most frequently asked questions that people ask.
1. Is nude hiking legal in Spain, and are you allowed to walk naked anywhere?
Yes, nude hiking is completely legal in Spain. The Spanish constitution protects personal
freedom, meaning that nudity in the great outdoors is, in principle, not a criminal offence
anywhere. However, it is important to show respect for local traditions and the natural
environment. In practice, it’s best to choose quiet, non-touristy nature reserves and
mountain trails. Around busy village squares or crowded family beaches, it’s best to keep
your clothes on to avoid awkward situations.
2. What should you do if you unexpectedly come across other walkers whilst nude
walking?
This is the biggest hurdle for beginners, but in practice it resolves itself quite naturally. Quiet
regions such as the valley El Comtat are not touristy, so the chance of an encounter is very
small. If it does happen, take precautions in advance. Make sure you always have a light
wrap, scarf or shorts within easy reach (for example, on the shoulder strap of your rucksack).
Do you see someone approaching in the distance? Then quickly and discreetly wrap it
around yourself. A friendly “¡Hola!” and everyone simply carries on their way.
3. Is nude hiking (free hiking) intended to be sexual?
Absolutely not. Just like naturism, free hiking has absolutely no sexual connotation. It’s
purely about freedom, comfort and the ultimate connection with nature. Without the
barrier of clothing, you feel the wind, the sun and the elements in a very pure way. It casts
aside all social roles and outward appearances. It’s a form of mental relaxation and body
positivity, centered on respect for one another and the environment.
4. Where can I go nude hiking safely and peacefully in the Alicante/Valencia region?
The best spots are the authentic, mountainous inland areas that are overlooked by the
masses. The lush hinterland of the Costa Blanca, where we are located is a perfect example
of this. Here you’ll find breathtaking, hidden mountain paths and peaceful nature trails
where you can walk for hours without encountering a soul. It helps to set off with locals who
know the region inside out; they know exactly which routes are perfect for an undisturbed
experience and which paths are best avoided.
